A man in the US who caught the fancy of his neighbours and netizens by allowing 20 Burmese pythons to live and roam free around his home has been charged for keeping exotic animals as pets.
According to reports, Martin Bone had as many as 20 pythons living in his house, 10 of which were over 10-feet in length. The cops said he also had hundreds of rodents on his premises. 585 rats and 46 rabbits, according to an official report.
After the police raided his home in Holladay, Utah, the 64-year-old was held on 20 changers relating to keeping exotic animals and pets.
The officers who visited Bone’s house said some of the animals were kept in enclosures. But most of the snakes were slithering freely around the premises.
“One of the issues that came to our attention is just the amount of debris coming from the animals made the area kind of have an interesting smell to it,” detective Ken Hansen was quoted by local channel ABC4.
Hansen said that animal control was in the location and all the animals in the property were taken to veterinarians for examination.
“We had animal control there and we had a veterinarian there. So every animal that was taken from there had an examination including the snakes, rats, and the rabbits,” he added..
Earlier this month, shoppers at a city centre in Brighton were recently left terrified after they spotted a man casually walking inside the shopping area with a 12-feet python in his hands.
The man, who turned out to be a professional snake handler, was stopped and questioned by the cops after concerned locals flagged the incident to the police station.
