The werewolf is a mythological animal and the subject of many stories around the world. Werewolves are, according to some legends, people who transform into ferocious and powerful wolves. Others are a mutant combination of human and wolf. But they are all bloodthirsty beasts who cannot control their lust to kill people and animals. Some legends hold that werewolves changed shape at will due to a curse. Others claim that they were transformed with the help of a magical wolfskin cloak. And there are also those who believe that people turned into wolves after being scratched or bitten by another lycanthrope.

In many werewolf stories, a person only turns into a wolf when there is a full moon, and that theory may not be far-fetched. According to a study conducted at Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital in Australia, the full moon brings out the “beast” in many humans. The study found that of the 91 incidents of sharp and violent behavior at the hospital between August 2008 and July 2009, 23 percent occurred during the full moon. The patients attacked the staff and displayed wolf-like behaviors such as biting, spitting and scratching. Although many were under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time, it is not clear why they became intensely violent when the moon was full. This shows us that perhaps werewolves are much more than just a legend. And now a video could prove its existence.

The Rise of the Werewolves

Two videos have recently surfaced showing similar creatures hiding in the dark. Unfortunately little is known about the videos, other than that they were uploaded to the Imgur website and then shared by various specialized cryptozoology blogs. With the little information we have, it seems that the creatures in both videos were recorded in different countries of South America, in Brazil and Argentina.

“This one was recorded in Brazil, the other one in Argentina. They both sound the same,” the video description reads.

The first, judging by the background noise, was recorded in a suburban area and shows the creature, which resembles a wolf-like animal, behind a garden. The second shows a similar animal briefly emerging from the foliage of a forest, again in the dark. It’s hard to say what these creatures could be, and while it’s possible they were werewolves, they could also be wolves with some kind of malformation, and even a very well-crafted joke.

However, this has not prevented experts in the field from speaking out with the disturbing images. They believe that if the videos were real, we would be facing one of the best evidence in recent times, since images of werewolves are considerably rare compared to other cryptid animals, such as Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster.

They have also warned those who have had the encounter that werewolves, by nature, are endowed with all the intelligence of a human along with the primal power of a wolf. What is striking is that they have been able to record one on video, because given their nature as free beings, werewolves move away from urban society, living in the shadow of forests and nature.

More sightings in recent months

But this would not be the only sighting of werewolves in South America. As we published in MEP, last March the citizens of Ocozocoautla de Espinosa, Mexico, had not slept for some time due to the sound of ‘howling’ that they hear at night along with gunshots in the air. And the middle turned to panic after a local parishioner asked people to light a candle outside their homes for spiritual protection. Some of the witnesses who claimed to have seen the creature said it was over two meters tall and highly agile. Stories were posted on social media that a man living in the neighboring town of El Caracol saw the alleged lycanthrope breaking through a 10-foot-high fence.

Other witnesses allegedly fired at the mysterious being, but the bullets had no effect on it. The reports also mention a “rotten smell” emanating from the alleged werewolf. One of the theories is that the creature was a man who lived in a nearby town (Ocuilapa) who was a ‘nahual’, a ‘witch’ or shaman capable of transforming his body into that of a wolf or a coyote. Even the police were forced to intervene. A police officer confirmed having seen “the entity” wandering the streets of the town. In this specific case, the only evidence is recordings of howls and photos of some claw marks on the ground.

And as if the story of werewolves wasn’t terrifying enough, new werewolf videos now make their existence even more believable. What is clear
