A hyena noticed a python about to devour an antelope and swiftly intervened by agitating the snake until it released its prey. Mike Sutherland captured the intense dispute between the hyena and python during a safari in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Throughout their journey, they encountered numerous young impalas, some of which were only a few days or possibly hours old, as described by Sutherland. While a hyena was present in the distance, a sizable herd of antelopes lounged on the mudflat’s edge.
From a large gourd tree covered in fruit, a python slithered down and concealed itself among the withering leaves. The young antelope was swiftly captured after passing by the location where the python lay in wait. Both the hyena and the python turned their attention toward the sound of the antelope’s distress call.
