An inspiring journey taken by a 3-year-old who overcomes extraordinary challenges despite having legs four times the normal size (video)

  1. Akshaj Khandelwal, a 3-year-old boy from Delhi, India, was born with a rare disease called Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS) – with an incidence of 1/100,000 people, making him unable to walk. back to normal. When Akshaj Khandelwal walks a few steps, his feet will bleed. The boy cannot go to school alone.

However, Akshaj did not know anything about his illness. He believed that his giant leg was a gift that would help him become a superhero and that he was very lucky to have it.

People often discriminate and keep a distance from the boy because they are afraid of being infected. My family is very worried that I will be bullied when I grow up and go to school.

Mr. Khandelwal, Ankur’s father, believes that his son is still too young to know the truth about his illness, especially when this is a disease with no cure.

He said: “My son doesn’t know about this disease. We don’t want to make him feel bad. He believes that his big legs help him become a superhero. He is too young to know about his disease.

He believes that having a big leg makes him a superman. He is too young to know his problems. We are sure that it can be overcome positively…”

The couple then went to almost all the hospitals in New Delhi but returned without receiving any help. Doctors at Fortis Hospital are still very confused about this syndrome and say it is unlikely that the child can be treated successfully.

KTS is a rare genetic disease that affects the development of blood vessels, soft tissue, and bones.

Dr Krishan Chugh, head of pediatrics, said: “KTS is a malformation where the veins are not properly developed – a disorder found mainly in children. Akshaj has a tendency to bleed from the intestines and Tests have shown that the blood supply to the intestines is not normal. The veins will become stretched and this will lead to bleeding.”

Akshaj’s parents will continue to search for a cure for their son, but must admit that it is painful for them to watch their son suffer.

Akshaj’s mother Shruti said: “We have seen all the doctors in Delhi, but until now we have not been able to find any treatment. His health is decreasing. His size is decreasing. of the leg is increasing day by day and it makes my heart ache.”
