The messages show various pictures of 5-headed snakes claiming that they have been found in various places of India. These 5 headed snake stories are hoaxes, the pictures are not genuine.

Pictures about the ‘Five Headed Snakes’ in Temple

These pictures claiming to show 5-headed snakes in India have been circulating since years, some of the stories attach mythological importance to it by claiming that they have been found in Kukke Subramanya Temple, near Mangalore, Karnataka. However, a close look at the pictures will say that they are not genuine, but photoshopped images of normal single headed snakes. The original single headed snake pictures shown below were actually taken by a woman blogger named Tien Chiu in 2003 at a Snake Farm in Thailand, when she traveled to Bangkok.

The first picture is actually a King cobra at the Snake Farm in Thailand. Few other single headed pictures of snakes from this farm were Photoshopped to look like 5-headed snakes. You will also see couple of other snakes in the farm. The 5-headed snake in the waters between bushes has a strange color and shape that does not even look like a real snake, it must be an idol or a toy snake put in the waters for taking picture. The pictures of single snake heads from the farm were copied and joined together to develop the five-headed snakes.

Polycephaly in Multi-headed Snakes

Polycephaly is in fact a term that describes multi-headed animals. Although there are few documented instances of two headed and three headed animals, there are no credible reports to say that 5 headed snakes exist. They are generally believed to be seen in mythological stories. Moreover, the two headed snakes generally have distinct heads, not joined together. And most of these polycephaletic snakes have a tough life and do not live long. The video below shows one such two headed snake.
